CHEY PONPANHA
Panha was born on the 17th of February 2003. He has a younger sister, Sokharaksmey, who is also studying at our school and is in grade 3 “A”. Panha has a strong bond with his sister, and even as a student he was always helping her at home. Panha’s parents have a medical clinic, and his father is a doctor.
Panha’s favourite activities are watching soccer, wrestling, and playing football.
“When Panha was young, he loved watching wrestling so much”, his mother says. “He used paper to make wrestling belts and he hung them on the wall of his room. He was really happy to play soccer with his schoolmates at school too.”
Panha dreams, following his father's path, of becoming a doctor, and more specifically, a heart surgeon. It is quite a challenging course of study, and the students who wish to enrol in Medicine at the university, need to have good grades in subjects such as Biology and Chemistry during their secondary school years.
Also, in order to enter the Medical Faculty in Phnom Penh, Panha needs to take a test. For this reason, he is now living at his uncle’s place where he studies to get ready for the test. He comes back home only during weekends, to meet his sister and his parents.
Panha is very grateful to Missione Possibile for the great work they do in helping the students fulfil their dreams.
“Thank you, teachers, for helping me to become who I am today,” he says. “The teachers working at the MP school are hard-working and very talented. They never felt weary when I needed help. I could ask for their support in many ways, contacting them through the Facebook chat or calling them, or talking to them when I met them in the classroom,” he adds. “I am blessed that I had the chance to study here and to have graduated from this school. The teachers always tried to find good practise and lessons to add to the curriculum, and their explanations were always very clear. The Missione Possibile Schools are located in a quiet area, without any gambling activity or noise around them. The Schools have a library with many kinds of books, a volleyball court and an area for soccer. I never felt bored. I felt safe when I was studying in both schools. Also, my classmates and schoolmates were very disciplined, and I didn’t have any bullying experiences with any of them. I still have a lot of good friends, and Tola is my best friend. We exchange our knowledge and views about different things both at school and at home. I wish my friendship with him could last forever, even now that we are far apart from each other. The school left me with so many good memories. I had such good friends, and the teachers and the principal were supportive and very experienced. At school, everyone is treated fairly. All students have the same opportunity to learn, play and help each other”.
Panha has always been one of the best students at the Missione Possibile schools, and he is quite fluent in English. Answering the question about what makes him good at English, he says: “I always read English books before the class started. I also like watching movies in English, with subtitles”. Panha also achieved outstanding results in all the other subjects.
“Studying Medicine is not easy, so I need to work hard,” he says.
As a graduate student, he has a message for his schoolmates: “Please study hard, focus on studying and don’t waste your time on the phone or on other useless things. Respect the teachers and the school rules. I hope you guys get good results at school and at home”.
“I wish that Missione Possibile can gain more support and do more amazing work for the people, especially for the poor Cambodian people,” Panha adds. “I wish our schools to keep up the good work and have more good students graduating and going to University. I wish all teachers prosperity, health, and happiness. I cannot give them back anything now. But one day, I hope I can come back and help them in some ways. I also hope that Missione Possibile can get more help from the donors.”
We congratulate Panha on his achievements and wish him all the best for his studies and his future as a medical doctor. We are extremely proud that Missione Possibile allowed him to start a path that would make his dreams come true. We are grateful to all our incredible supporters around the world for continuing to believe in us and in our project of expanding the Cambodian children’s educational possibilities and boundaries, so that all of them will be able to choose, one day, to become who they would like to be.
